Indiana Offers Extended Unemployment for Residents

In an important move to those who are displaced workers in the state of Indiana, whose unemployment rate has consistently risen recently, Indiana is offering an additional 13 weeks of unemployment compensation insurance to those workers who have exhausted their unemployment compensation, to assure that they have some source of income until they find additional work.

Under Indiana’s Unemployment Compensation system, to be eligible for the continued unemployment compensation insurance benefits you must be:

  • Continuously unemployed
  • Unable to receive regular unemployment, having exhausted those benefits
  • Have 20 work weeks prior to your filing an unemployment claim
  • Eligible for work, and accept work if it is offered
  • Register for Work with the Indiana Unemployment Office
  • Use WorkOne of Indiana’s resources
  • Be actively seeking employment.

The Federal Extended unemployment program will cover you if you are unemployed after May first of2007 and any time prior to March 31 of 2009.YOu must first, however have completed twenty full weeks of work prior to being eligible for any unemployment compensation claim.

To gain the Indiana extended unemployment compensation, your benefits must be completely exhausted and then a new claim for the extension filed with the Unemployment Office of Indiana.

There is usually no need to visit the WorkOne center to file the claim, however if you are having difficulties filing, or if you might have concerns, or you have  questions,  or require assistance with filing your extended unemployment benefits claims:

WorkOne Centers throughout  Indiana  will offer you the information that you need to completed the forms necessary to gain your additional unemployment compensation claims under the unemployment extension program in Indiana.
